Sorghum Midge Testing Scheme
Plain text source:
Midge resistance was first incorporated into lines in the mid 1980's and today almost 100% of the hybrids commercially available in the marketplace have some level of midge resistance... The test hybrids are then given a resistance rating (a measurement of the amount of grain lost, per visiting female midge per day) from 1 (nil resistance) to 8+ (current maximum resistance commercially available)... The MR ratings, along with other crop information (e.g. crop densities, midge numbers, current market value of grain and cost of chemical control); can then be used in the online Economic Threshold Calculator to assist growers in managing their crops ...
