Frost Frost damage reduces crop yield and grain quality... To identify frost damage: you MUST PEEL OPEN FLOWERS and PODS on plants so that you can clearly see parts that are affected, a magnifying glass and fine tweezers or a needle can be useful... Buds, flowers, pods and seeds can all be affected by frost...

Overall, both models are acceptable for modelling soil evaporation over a range of soils and seasons provided accurate soil physical properties and starting water states are known... Overall, populations increased five times compared to before planting the summer crops, but remained below 250/kg soil (Figure 4)...

The twenty drivers of the future of the industry that were identi ed by the participants at the workshop are listed below (in no particular order)... Importance Regional Scenarios for Australian Grain Farms page 25.. The participants who developed the scenario for this quadrant were faced with conceiving what the industry would be like in a situation where international and domestic policies are generally unfavourable to the grains industry, opportunities for differentiated product and new end markets are limited, but the level of innovation is high, input costs are moderate and grain prod...

In summary, 20 trials have now recently been undertaken across a number of seasons and locations in NSW. None of them have demonstrated S responses in yield or oil %. This does not exclude deficiency and yield penalties from occurring but does highlight that the frequency and the likelihood is not high... Delaying any action that has the potential to cease grain fill will see more seeds achieve their maximum size and improve yield... In summary there was no 'concerning' level of seed loss observed at any trial or timing, correlating well with the yield data...

As you will see from this Groundcover liftout, the GRDC has established a national R&D initiative to further develop Precision Agriculture (PA) methods, and to test and demonstrate how growers can use them to improve profit and sustainability... As a part of this work, we would like to get a better understanding of how many growers are using PA, what the main barriers to adoption are, what are the areas where improvements are needed, and how you would like to obtain information about this PA research and its findings... We intend to repeat this survey at or after the completion of this Ini...

Ultimately I don't believe this has been to the detriment of the soil as we are travelling on rm ground and getting a better mix, a leveller paddock and better conditions to sow into with our Simplicity Bar'... We have used the machine on stubble in January 2010 and had massive wind storms a day or so later with no lifting of the soil whatsoever which was a big bonus compared to neighbouring sheep grazed and bare paddocks.".. Yield increases for wheat-on-wheat sowing into standing stubble were measured on 7 out of 10 sites over 4 years (Table 1)...

The guide will help you identify the common root and crown diseases that cause damage to cereal crops across.. Some of the diseases can be initially identified from paddock symptoms whilst others require a more careful inspection of the roots or lower stems of infected plants... Where resistance is not available, control is achieved through rotations with non-host crops, adjusting time of sowing in relation to the break of the season and weed kill, improved tillage techniques and by ensuring that adequate nutrition is available to help the plants recover...

A positive test result confirms the need for alternative tactics or herbicides... Assessing weed population density The most accurate way to estimate the population of a weed in a paddock is to count the number of plants in an area of known size at a number of locations... Estimating potential weed population density Potential weed population density can be estimated in a number of ways, such as: When weeds are setting seed, count the number of seed-heads or pods, and the number of seeds per pod or seed-head, from a given sample area...

GRDC Grains Research Update Coonabarabran, February 2014 that promote yield (provided the crop has access to sufficient soil water available)... Overall, the performance of the barley grain only varieties showed they are capable of producing around 6 t/ha of dry matter and still yielding between 2.7 and 3.4 t/ha of grain... GRDC Grains Research Update Coonabarabran, February 2014 purpose variety the yield performance of Urambie is not unexpected it also had a very high level of screenings at 26% (data not shown) and extremely poor retention which meant it would not have been acceptable int...
