Weight gain was most strongly associated with intake of potato crisps, potatoes, sugar-sweetened beverages, unprocessed meats, processed meats and sweets/desserts... The effect of refined-grain foods in the diet was found to be much less than the impact of the food categories listed above... Tips to help you swap the weight-gaining foods in your diet for wholegrain foods are: - swap potato chips with plain popcorn or a wholemeal sandwich; - have brown rice or wholemeal pasta instead of mashed potato with you main meal; and - choose wholegrain crackers rather than sweet biscuits...
