Stop summer weeds draining your profits.. Extra nitrogen available to a crop through fallow weed control is reflected in yield and, potentially, grain protein "Previous research in central NSW has found that up to 50 per cent of yield potential can be attributed to summer rainfall and summer fallow management, so not controlling summer weeds is costing growers in moisture and nitrogen in the following crop," he says... "The higher levels of soil water in fallows where weeds are controlled are likely to see more nitrogen mineralised in the fallow period, making it available for use by the following crop," Mr McMaster says...
