Dr Blair Trewin from the Bureau of Meteorology's National Climate Centre says for the period 2001-12 rainfall in coastal south-west WA was 15 per cent or more below the 1961-90 period, while wheatbelt rainfall has fallen 10 to 15 per cent over the same period... This has led to a change in global atmospheric circulation, including a lessening of the subtropical jetstream and a decline in winter storm tracks over the south-west of WA (broadly, the region from Northampton north of Perth to east of Esperance)...
