Growers would like more information on choice of the most suitable break crops for their own situation... The results of the survey present an up to date assessment of how farmers regard break crops in their farming system... The reviews, interviews, workshops and past surveys have been collated to establish a consensus on attitudes towards break crops in Western Australia...
Dry or "early" seeding of wheat, when undertaken at appropriate times and seasons, should yield a modest additional profit... The economic outcomes are computed in a particular hypothetical case, and summarised using Prospect Theory... Taking account of prior summer rain, a criterion level of moisture after 31 March which constitutes the break has been computed for all years from 1976 onwards...

KEYMESSAGES During the crop growing season, there was little difference in soil water under annual crop, perennial pasture, and pasture-cropped plots... In the paper, we concentrate on plots in which neutron moisture meter access tubes were installed... Deep drainage beyond a depth of 3.0 m was calculated from rainfall (measured on-site with a tipping-bucket rain gauge), ET 0(Allen et al. 1998) and change in soil moisture storage...
Chickpea has very high yield potential.. Both show similar agronomic traits and quality to Seedmark with potential release in.. New and future releases from Seednet (PBA) and Seedmark demonstrated yield improvement and adaptation to Western Australia..

Sulfoxaflor is currently being assessed by the APVMA and is expected to be registered by mid 2013 with the trade name Transform Insecticide... The paper presents data from four field trials carried out from 2008 to 2012 showing the efficacy of Transform on the three key species of aphids that attack canola in WA and demonstrate that when registered Transform will be a valuable tool for control of aphids in canola... Formulations used in the study were: Transform Insecticide (Sulfoxaflor 240 SC), Pirimor 500 WG (Pirimicarb), BS-1000 (non-ionic surfactant), and Agral 600 (non-ionic surfactan...

The aim of the following study was to acquire a unique, long-term (> 1 year) data set of N 2O emissions from a rainfed, cropped soil in a semi arid region and to investigate the relationship between N 2O emissions and other soil and environmental parameters... Some ability to make in-season tactical decisions when to graze or continue through to harvest would be valuable... The commodity prices are an important aspect of any decision to graze a cereal crop...

The decline in profitability of the high rainfall farm is driven by declining terms of trade rather than the yield reductions under predicted climate change... Farmers and advisors still require a simple method to estimate yield potential using a simple spreadsheet or 'back of the envelope' type calculations... The soil moisture values calculated by STIN XL for sowing dates later than 1 April were seen as an underestimate...
Four lines showed good levels of broad spectrum resistance at various growth stages, environments and across all national sites and are important new sources of resistance that can be used by breeders for developing resistant varieties... Lines were assessed in the glasshouse at the seedling stage using four replicates sown as randomised blocks... Lines were assessed under controlled environment in duplicate using a partially replicated design...
