Driving down the weed seed bank

Michael Widderick, Queensland Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) says seed banks need to be reduced to decrease weed pressures and the key is stopping seed set... Dr Widderick says for many small-seeded weeds, such as feathertop Rhodes grass and fleabane, the seed bank is relatively short lived (one to two years), so a concerted effort for a short period of time will enable growers to quickly get on top of troublesome weeds... Dr Widderick says fleabane is a difficult to control weed and an over-reliance on glyphosate for fallow weed control has resulted in populations becoming glyphosate resistant...
