" Print the page Peanuts have been grown in Australia since the 1880s... Australia produces about 50,000 t of peanuts each year with >90% consumed as high-quality snack foods... PCA and the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry implement collaborative projects in various areas of peanut production, including developing new peanut varieties that are Hi Oleic, high-yielding, multiple disease-resistant with a range of maturities for growers...
GRDC Taxonomy:
Adult and nymph black field crickets feed on the leaves and stems of seedlings and may reduce a stand to the extent that replanting is necessary... In sunflower, the cricket feeds on the seedlings, on the back of the flower heads and on the maturing seeds on the face of the flower... Most damage is caused by crickets already in the area at planting or by adults flying into crops...
GRDC Taxonomy:
The optimum planting time for forage oats is from mid-March to June in southern Queensland, and early April to June in central Queensland... Late planting will hasten maturity and reduce the potential for multiple grazing... Starter fertiliser at sowing is recommended, but should be applied separate to the seed as the fertiliser can damage the seed and reduce its germination (e.g. DAP at 100 kg/ha will provide sufficient nitrogen (N) for establishment and phosphorus for the duration of the crop)...
GRDC Taxonomy:
Capsicum chlorosis virus causes mottling and dark (necrotic) spots to develop on leaves, internodes are reduced in length, terminal growing points wilt and die.. Affected plants set few kernels and those which do set are small and of poor quality... Severely affected plants are stunted and may die, leaving gaps in rows...
Loopers can be distinguished from helicoverpa by: their 'looping' action when walking by their body, which tapers to the head they have only two pairs of hind legs, as opposed to four for helicoverpa... Loopers appear susceptible to all insecticides used for helicoverpa control, with the exception of Gemstar and Vivus (NPVs) which only act against helicoverpa... Dipel (Bt) is far more effective against loopers than against helicoverpa but thorough coverage is required for best results...

" Print the page green vegetable bug suffering the effects of the caterpillar fungal disease, Metarhizium green vegetable bug suffering the effects of the caterpillar fungal disease, Metarhizium mirid suffering the effects of the caterpillar fungal disease, Beauveria mirid suffering the effects of the caterpillar fungal disease, Beauveria.. Fungus fills the inside of the insect and produces a velvety layer of spores on the skin under moist conditions, light green in the case of N. rileyi , dark green for M. anisopliae , or white for B. bassiana ... Each infected larva produces millions of...
GRDC Taxonomy:
Adults are 8 mm long, are greyish-brown with a V-shaped pale mark near the middle of the back and have a prominent snout... Larvae and adults chew sections out of the leaves of seedlings, usually in the evening and night... Eggs laid in the surface litter of the soil in autumn hatch into larvae that feed during the night on developing plants and shelter in the soil during the day...
GRDC Taxonomy:
Infection is favoured by wet weather and temperatures of about 27 o C. Plants are most susceptible at the seedling stage and late in the season when the crop begins to 'cut out'... Infection on cotyledons, leaves and bracts first appears as small, circular brown, grey-brown to tan spots which vary in size from 1-10 mm... Under favourable conditions the disease is most severe on lower leaves and least severe on upper leaves, unless leaves are affected by premature senescence...
GRDC Taxonomy:
High-yielding maize crops require large quantities of soil nutrients... * Maximum rate for growers aiming for a 7 t/ha dryland crop or 10 t/ha irrigated crop from ground that has been cultivated for more than 25 years and has a history of summer crops (such as sorghum, maize, millet, sunflower, cotton) or has been double-cropped with winter cereals Symptoms of nitrogen deficiency include: light green or yellowish leaves, often with a V-shaped yellow area at tips of leaves premature drying along the midrib and leaf tips stunted and slow-flowering plants short and often poorly filled ears......
When all appropriate weed management options for the situation have been considered, and a decision has been made to spray, there are still several important factors involved in using herbicides safely and effectively... Toxicities of herbicides are assessed during development stages of herbicides when they are tested on laboratory animals such as rats and rabbits... Dissolved salts The total amount of mineral salts dissolved in water is usually measured by the electrical conductivity (EC) of the water...
