While chickpeas are considered to have moderately high requirement for P, economic fertiliser responses to P are uncommon... The two exceptions are: soils with critically low P levels (below 6-8 mg P/kg, based on a Colwell test at 0-10cm) and no prior history of P fertiliser long fallow situations with low VAM levels (10 months or longer) even where soil levels are considered adequate...
